The most important information to look at (in the Blue Box above) is the
"cfs"
reading (cubic feet per second), which represents the current "River Flow"
being released at the Canyon Lake Dam, influencing our section of the
Guadalupe River, ultimately where you will be tubing! (Note: To determine
the actual River Flow, add the "Turbine Setting" to the "Outlet Works Release" and it
should equal the "Flow at Sattler Gage") If you find that things don't add up correctly when
determining the actual River Flow, it's most likely due to faulty or broken
river gages, which happens quite often. The reading on the
"Flow at Sattler Gage" should represent the "actual river flow".
The above "data feed" for Canyon Lake Water Levels & River Conditions is provided by the
U.S. Army Corps. of Engineers out of Fort Worth, Texas and is updated daily.

Refer to the following chart to determine the current river conditions measured in "cfs"...

***  Below 64 cfs... see photo below  ***
(River Levels below 64 cfs are "Low & Slow", some walking, add extra float time)

65 - 499 cfs =
Recreational

500 - 799 cfs = Challenging

800 - 1199 cfs = Strenuous
** Caution is Advised **

1200 cfs and above = NO RIVER TUBING
(Considered Too Dangerous for Tubing)

A picture is worth a thousand words!
Guadalupe River (Horseshoe Loop) at 52 cfs on 7-15-06
Float time around the Loop: about 2 1/2 hours...
Distance around the "Loop" ( 1 mile )

At 52 cfs, the Horseshoe Loop section of the Guadalupe River is slow, but still popular and floatable in most areas. The water is refreshing and feels great under the Hot Texas Sun, but occasionally at low levels, your tube may hang up on riverbed rocks in shallow places and you may have to move your tube back into more floatable water.

Please read our "Tubing Checklist" before coming out to go tubing, it's loaded with great tips to help you have a great time!
